Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate (HoLEP)
Holmium Laser Enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) is developed by Gilling and Fraundorfer. Since then, enucleation of the prostate is continuously improved, showing promising perioperative and postoperative results, and Holmium laser has become an attractive alternative to standard TURP.
Although multiple approaches with HoLEP are uitilized, all rely upon identification of the surgical capsule and retrograde enucleation along this plane.
The following video sequence shows the original approach by Gilling who pioneered with HoLEP and another approach by Schatteman with his colleagues De Groote, De Naeyer and Mottrie.
