Retroperitoneal robotic partial nephrectomy is an extremely useful tool in a kidney surgeon's armamentarium. This technique allows the surgeon to avoid peritoneal dissection in patients with significant intraperitoneal pathology and/or scarring. Furthermore, in patients with posterior renal masses, the technique affords direct access to the tumor, making excessive perirenal dissection and aggressive medial rotation of the kidney unnecessary.
