Step 2: Preparation of the retroperitoneal space

• The preparation is guided to a cranial direction over the psoas muscle.
• The psoas is the important for the orientation in retroperitoneal procedures.
• The renal vessels should be identified and prepared in order to allow for a safe excision of the renal tumor. The prepared vessels can be easily identified and clamped if deemed necessary during tumor excision.
